I am currently a pharmaceutical rep however I would like to get into corporate event planning and marketing since I do not have experience I am thinking of taking a online certificate course from UMASS. I wanted to know if corporations see this and laugh or will this help me get a foot in the door? Help please

Advanced certificates are worth something. It shows you took initiative and determination.

A shift in careers (in this case, sales to event planning) will necesitate a latteral or even backward step. Keep that in mind as you look for jobs. Once you’re in, you’ll have to prove yourself and make a name for yourself in your new career.

Good luck

I have a small client base that do repeat business with me and helps to put food on the table, but I get weeks where I wonder if anyone is going to send me some business. Is there a way to get more clients? My current clients are through craigslist, bartering and partnership with web designing companies. Some months I earn over $2000 and some months I would be lucky if I can see $200.

What kind of area are you in? You might be surprised how many clients you may pick up just by stopping into local stores. Most small business owners don’t have time or the educate to create a quality online presence. I would recommend contacting the local chamber of commerce (or viewing their website) for a list of local businesses and just go down the list.

I need a cool, catchy name for my web design business and online portfolio. The site will have information about my web design services and show a portfolio of previous work. I’ve got some ideas but would love some suggestions. Thanks!

First, is this a sole proprietorship, LLC, etc.? I recommend the protection of an LLC. I have done web design work on my own, but I know that an LLC will be able to serve you well in order to distinguish your personal assets from business assets if there is ever a lawsuit.

And, if you do form an LLC you will have to have an original name. For example, say that it is incorporated in Missouri. Say you want "Bob’s Web Design, LLC". If there is already such a company in Missouri then you will not be able to choose it. So, do a little research first.

Remember your product, not your name, is the most important part.

Consider asking advice on online forums about a business name.

Looks like I’m about to get laid off. I’ve dabbled with stock market investing and have a little money to play with. I figure I can become the next Warren Buffet if I play my cards right. :)
Yeah, I’ve made a little money with trading – but I always wonder if it was just luck.

Well, you’re right to seek out resources to get up to speed.

Together these forms of marketing do very well. The first step would be to get your website optimized in order to gain higher organic rankings. While the site is being optimized, as it doesn’t happen overnight, start writing articles in your blog. Although not true SEO, the reason why a blog has become so successful for business owners and/or webmasters is because search engine spiders love original content. If the content is updated frequently (twice weekly) then search engine spiders will visit the site even more frequently. Many sales leads come from an interesting blog and is a great way to build a brand for your product / service.

Once the blog is up and running then begin socially bookmarking the site on relevant websites. These social communities will help direct traffic to your blog. If you’re wondering what you can write about in your blog, just focus on what seems to be the most frequently asked questions in your industry. Visit a forum and study the forum members questions.

Is it ok for minors to start a small web-based business selling some handmade product online??
(if you only made a little bit of money?)

It’s legal, but keep in mind that you will need to keep track of how much money you make and how much you spend in supplies, shipping, advertising and other business expenses. If you make more than a certain amount of money (I think it is $3000) you will have to file income taxes (even as a minor), and you will need records of all those things. Certain supplies that are essential to your business will be tax deductible, so make sure you keep track of them.
And don’t forget, if you are selling through ebay or etsy or another commercial site, there will be fees to keep track of as well.
I don’t want to discourage you, but be prepared. If you know what to expect, you will be more likely to continue your business rather than be overwhelmed. Also, don’t be afraid to ask your parents for help. Most parents would be thrilled to have their child start up even a small business because it is such a good experience.

I am new at my firm as their only Marketing Representative and since I have been here, I have been calling most of their prospective leads, and learning about the company’s products. Today I started to call different companies to try to have a meeting with their staff to see what luck we may get for people to enroll into the programs, but it is so hard to get people to sign up especially as most of them is complaining that they don’t have enough money.

What strategy do you think that I can use to get people to sign up on our distant programmes and how do you think I should approach these prospective students.

Any suggestion will be wll appreciated. Thank you.

Show the relationship of the program to their work and advancement. Arrange for a payment plan. See if they can get time off for taking the class./

I’m not sure if you’re looking for a tool that incorporates targeted markets specific to your service or for an all-in-one type system that will virally bring in all the business you need for your service to be utilized. If such is the case, this is the best all-in-one viral tool I have recently come across.

Viral marketing is not new to online marketing, but the way the company has set it up, it allows you to use widgets to target your customers.

The company takes viral marketing to a whole new level not yet seen on the internet.

They will officially launch in about a week. The whole system is free and if you’d like you can sign up for free and try out their Super Viral Marketing System even before they launch. If you don’t understand how widgets work, don’t worry the company will take the time to educate you so you can make it part of your online marketing tool arsenal.

It won’t cost you a dime! And it will target other businesses to utilize your service. Check it out and I hope it will at least help you further your online marketing education at the least. :)
