I am starting up a web design business and I need to find a name. I wanted to use "KL Design" or "KL Designs" but they are already taken. The "KL" are my initials. My slogan is "Honest – Affordable – Dependable" and I live in the Rochester, NY area.. any suggestions?

Honestly I don’t know of any legitimate home based business that is free and makes "big bucks". Your best bet is to find a hobby or something you are already doing and are good at and figure out how to turn it into a business.

I need a cool, catchy name for my web design business and online portfolio. The site will have information about my web design services and show a portfolio of previous work. I’ve got some ideas but would love some suggestions. Thanks!

First, is this a sole proprietorship, LLC, etc.? I recommend the protection of an LLC. I have done web design work on my own, but I know that an LLC will be able to serve you well in order to distinguish your personal assets from business assets if there is ever a lawsuit.

And, if you do form an LLC you will have to have an original name. For example, say that it is incorporated in Missouri. Say you want "Bob’s Web Design, LLC". If there is already such a company in Missouri then you will not be able to choose it. So, do a little research first.

Remember your product, not your name, is the most important part.

Consider asking advice on online forums about a business name.

Is it ok for minors to start a small web-based business selling some handmade product online??

It’s legal, but keep in mind that you will need to keep track of how much money you make and how much you spend in supplies, shipping, advertising and other business expenses. If you make more than a certain amount of money (I think it is $3000) you will have to file income taxes (even as a minor), and you will need records of all those things. Certain supplies that are essential to your business will be tax deductible, so make sure you keep track of them.
And don’t forget, if you are selling through ebay or etsy or another commercial site, there will be fees to keep track of as well.
I don’t want to discourage you, but be prepared. If you know what to expect, you will be more likely to continue your business rather than be overwhelmed. Also, don’t be afraid to ask your parents for help. Most parents would be thrilled to have their child start up even a small business because it is such a good experience.

I need a tagline for my business. Something that’s emotional and inspirational. Sharp and simple, but that could be elaborated into a campaign if needed. I’m a graphic design and web design business called "PurpleDot Designs".

I am trying to upload two pictures to a Yahoo! Small Business Web site. The JPEGs are the same size & DPI as the previous pictures that were posted there, and I can see the thumbnail in the cart if it is selected to buy, but on the actual Web page I just get the cursed red x. Help!

make sure that your link is correct

then make sure that what’s capitalized is capitalized.
for example: i’ve had where my pictures won’t show up, but my file was actually written… "Picture.JPG" …
what was showing in my editor is "picture.jpg" so it’s usually case-sensitive.

I know that earning up to 80,000US while in NZ means i do not have to pay any US taxes. However I have a new venture. A web business based in the US, I want to keep the money in the US and live off of that in NZ. I assume there is a dual tax agreement so i will not be taxed twice. If I am taxed in the US how much money can i then bring over to NZ without NZ taxing me? For example can I bring over 50,000NZ a year 80,000NZ? That’s if it has already been taxed in the US.. You should consult a tax professional in NZ for the specifics. I would assume that if you pay all the taxes due in the US, you shouldn’t have to pay anything over there. INCOME tax should be paid where you make the income, which is a business in the states. NZ shouldn’t be able to tough it.
